Abstract:A considerable wave impedance difference between Fuyu Reservoir and the upper Qingshankou shale in northern Songliao Basin causes low-frequency strong and continuous T2 event at the top interface of Fuyu Reservoir. Under the strong reflection influence of T2,seismic characteristics of Member F11 thin sand above Fuyu Reservoir is obscure,so it is very difficult to predict thin sands based on conventional amplitude attributes. Therefore we propose a thin sand identification under strong reflection with volume-based waveform decomposition. First we use singular value decomposition (SVD) to decompose conventional seismic data into a collection of different components. Different components reflect different levels seismic characteristics of geology and stratigraphy. T2 strong reflection corresponds to the first component. Then we remove the first component, and this highlights weak reflection characteristics of sandstone hidden in the strong reflection background. Finally F11 thin sand is identified by the proposed approach.
